Discover a world of comfort and well-being in Villa Libuše, where the charm of history meets modern comfort.

Objevte svět elegance a pohodlí ve Ville Libuše, kde se snoubí kouzlo historie s moderním komfortem.

Villa Libuse is a guest house located on the western slope of the picturesque valley of Pietratagliata, a village in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region.

It is located about 3 kilometres from the nearest town of Pontebba, which is situated on the road between Tarvisio and Udine. The guesthouse is accessible by private transport, public transport, or on foot, walking along the cycle lane connecting it with the town.

Thanks to its location on a steep slope above the valley, the house offers visitors extraordinary views of the surroundings. The scenery visible from the windows of the rooms on the southwest facade, the terrace and the surrounding area is breathtaking.

As you look out of the window, you will see the panoramas of the massive Alpine mountain range, the whole valley with the village of Pietratagliata, the small church of Santo di Spirito, the meanders of the turquoise-blue Pontebbana river that flows through the valley, the industrial bridges that cross the river, and the cycle lane that runs practically right under the windows of the guesthouse.

Rooms Full of Comfort

Rooms Full of Comfort

Villa Libuše is a three-storey house with five guest rooms, a shared kitchen and a small hall with a fireplace.

The entrance to the house is directly from the sunny terrace, into the hall with the fireplace, which also serves as a small lounge.

On the ground floor, there is one double room with a built-in bathroom and a shared kitchen.

In this fully equipped kitchen guests can prepare coffee, and tea or store their food in the fridge.

Upon agreement, there is a possibility to prepare breakfast or other small refreshments for the guesthouse clients.

There are two rooms on the first floor. One double, with a built-in bathroom, and a triple room, with a separate bathroom at the entrance to the room, overlooking the valley.

The second floor of the guesthouse is identical in layout to the first floor, thus, one double room and one triple room.

The rooms are equipped with double beds with comfortable mattresses (splitting the bed into two single beds is possible), TV, bedside tables and storage space for clothes.

Bathrooms in all rooms are equipped with a toilet with a bidet shower, a barrier-free shower, and a washbasin.

The access road to the guest house is rather steep, therefore the accommodation is not the most suitable for clients with mobility restrictions. For the same reason, the guesthouse might not be suitable for families with small children (0-12 years).

Your four-legged friends, however, can handle this terrain, and are therefore welcome guests at the guesthouse.

The atmosphere of the Villa Libuse guesthouse is in the spirit of the motto: "make yourself feel at home".

Surroundings and Possible Activities

Surroundings and Possible Activities

There is a wide range of activities for guests to enjoy in the surroundings of Villa Libuše.

Less active guests can relax on the terrace with sun loungers and a sofa, or walk around the surroundings.

For active cyclists, the above-mentioned cycle lane is a great benefit of our guesthouse, as it is located right next to it, specifically in its 6th part. The Ciclovia Alpe-Adria, as it is officially called, is 410 km long and it is one of the most beautiful cycle lanes in Europe. Passing through the old railway lines, tunnels, viaducts and bridges is an unforgettable experience for every passionate cyclist.

The village of Pietratagliata is located along the way connecting the cities of Pontebba, Tarvisio, Venzone, Gemona, Udine and many smaller towns and villages.

The nearby towns:

Pontebba - a town with a charming atmosphere that offers Italian gastronomy, and comfort and a rarity is their ice rink.

Tarvisio - a town full of shops, cafes, and restaurants, also famous for hosting the women's Alpine Skiing World Cup races.

Venzone - a town which is a memorial of the 1976 earthquake and it is one of the most beautiful Italian towns with a fragrant atmosphere, it is also called the "Home of Lavender".

Gemona - a town with a rich history and many shopping opportunities.

Udine - a university town with lots of remarkable monuments in the style of Venetian architecture.

You will find authentic gastronomy, great wine and a delicious cup of Italian coffee et every corner of your visit here.

In the area around Pietratagliata, there are numerous small and large water springs, and there are thirteen monumental waterfalls and cascades that will enchant you with their beauty.

Other activities can be done in the nearby resort of Nassfeld (Passo Pramollo), famous for its excellent conditions for summer and winter hiking, but above all for its many slopes for alpine skiing.

Historie vily

The house in which the guesthouse was built has a rich history.  The oldest preserved record is a reference to a railway house from 1897. Operation on the railway line connecting Tarvisio and Udine started in 1879 and gradually station buildings and railway houses were built around it, and our guesthouse was one of them. During the First World War, the house was used as a refuge for the army and later it was converted into a hospital infirmary.

Between the world wars the building again served as a railway house at the Pietratagliata railway station.

During the Second World War, the house served again as a residence for the army, albeit for a relatively short period.

A dense network of border defences, consisting of machine gun nests and bunkers, was built along the railway line around the house.

In the post-war period, the house still served the needs of the railway until 1998 when it was sold and converted into a residential property.

In 1976, a very strong earthquake hit the Friuli region, including the village of Pitratagliata. The house survived the disaster, with only the roof being damaged.

Operations on the original railway line around the house were eventually discontinued, and in 2013 a generous Alpe-Adria cycle lane project was launched on the site of the original corridor, linking Salzburg and Grado.

The house was purchased from a private owner in 2022, its renovation started in autumn 2023 and was completed in August 2024.
